July Cup-winning Richard Hughes's breakthrough summer as a trainer got better on Thursday as Rose Ghaiyyath (Ghaiyyath) landed Deauville's valuable Arqana Series des Pouliches. Always prominent under Christophe Soumillon, Jaber Abdullah's 6-1 shot started to gain the upper hand inside the last 1 1/2 furlongs and clung on gamely to deny Zaravina (Zarak) by a short head for another British one-two in the card's sales races.
Like the winner of the colt's equivalent, Northern Champion, Rose Ghaiyyath is a graduate of the Arqana May Breeze-Up, having cost €110,000. Her dam Local Time, who was successful in the G3 Oh So Sharp Stakes, G3 International Istanbul Trophy and G3 UAE Oaks, is a daughter of the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes scorer and G3 Prix des Reservoirs runner-up Marie De Medici whose dam Mare Nostrum (Caerleon) took the G3 Prix Vanteaux and was second in the G1 Prix Saint-Alary. Connected to Dubawi's Canadian International and Grand Prix de Paris hero Erupt, her yearling full-sister to the winner is in the upcoming Goffs Orby Book 1 while she also has a filly foal by No Nay Never.
